Show Joy as Catholics

We do indeed need to show joy as Catholics.   My motto — “Be happily and uncomplicatedly Catholic.”…Michael J. Sheehan Archbishop of Santa   Fe

   The Blow-Out at Cana

cana

(Bring it to Life!)

I think it is good to make live special events recorded in the Bible. The Feast at Cana is one of my favorites. Why do you think Mary, the wife of a poor carpenter, would have been invited to this special affair? The answer is that because of her concern for other and her delightful personality, she was one of the most popular women in the village. Also, Jesus and his friends were included because they were good company. They added fun to the event.

AAwedding-at-canaThis is what occurred when Mary became aware of the wine steward’s panic.  She sensed it was the time for Jesus to perform his first public miracle.  First, she had trouble getting his attention because he was sharing a joke with the fellows at the end of the table.

Mary: Jesus, do you realize they have run out of wine?

Jesus: What else is new?

Mary (turning to the wine steward who was wringing his hands): Don’t pay any attention to what my son said. You just do whatever he tells you to do. I know he will and can do something to help you.

aaaawedding-feast-canaAfter Jesus had turned the water into wine, the wine steward offered the first glass to the most honored guest, the Province Governor, who was sitting next the host father of the bride. He sipped it, took another sip, and then said: “Wow! This is the best wine I’ve tasted in ages. Why did you hold it back until now?”

The bride’s father, who was probably a bit boozed up as were the others, glowed with this comment. He didn’t question what had happened and remained unaware of Jesus’ miracle.

At the close of the event, Mary and Jesus were walking back home.

Mary: I want you to know how proud I am of what you did tonight. I had no doubt that you could and would do something very special.

Jesus: It was you who first became of the predicament. I did what I knew you wanted me to do. So, you deserve the credit for saving the event.

Mary (with a chuckle)   After you proved what you could do tonight, do you think we should start a winery?
