Show Joy as Catholics.

We do indeed need to show joy as Catholics.   My motto — “Be happily and uncomplicatedly Catholic.”

                   George and Mary

washington-praying

On an evening in 1777, Anthony Sherman, a soldier serving with General George Washington during the bitter winter at Valley Forge, gave this first-hand account:

“Washington, who was known to wander alone praying, spent nearly the entire afternoon in his quarters, allowing no interruptions. When he came out, I noticed that his face was a shade paler than usual, and there seemed to be something on his mind of more ordinary importance. Later, the General told his orderly, ‘I do not know whether it was owing to the anxiety of my mind, or what, but this afternoon as I was sitting at this table engaging in preparing a dispatch, something seemed to disturb me

jmAngelOfLiberty 002 ‘Looking up, I beheld standing opposite me a singularly beautiful female. So astonished was I, for I had given strict order not to be disturbed, that it was some moments before I found language to inquire into the cause of her presence. A second, third and even a fourth time did I repeat my question, but received no answer from my mysterious visitor except a slight raising of her eyes.

‘By this time I felt strange sensations spreading through me. I would have risen but the riveted gaze of the being before me rendered volition impossible. I assayed once more to address her, but my tongue had become useless as though it had become paralyzed. A new influence, mysterious, potent, irresistible, took possession of me. All I could do was to gaze steadily, vacantly at my unknown visitant.

‘Gradually the surrounding atmosphere seemed as if had become filled with sensations and luminous. Everything about me seemed to rarefy, the mysterious visitor herself becoming more airy and yet more distinct to my sight than before…

‘Presently I heard a voice saying, Son of the Republic, look and learn.’ “

–        A tragic Christian act of “a tooth for a tooth”

For decades Central Africa with 400 million Muslims and 500 million Christians was a model for religion tolerance. Then last year, the Muslims rebels seized the capital with such brutal raping and murdering of Christians that the Frenchaaaaaaajpg-620x349 government sent forces to restore peace. Then last month, in reprisal, Christians attacked the Muslims and drove thousands from the capital. They then destroyed their homes and business places so that they would not return,

18-year-old Tcholongh Gauthier said, “I am looking for Muslims to kill them all. It’s not in the Bible, but they killed my father and mother.

–  (a sign of the times) With Bard Pitt (her 3rd husband), actress Angelina Jolie has had six children, and they are getting married. She said, “The kids are so excited about the wedding. They like the idea of mommy and daddy getting married.”

Awards

THE STUPID AWARD goes to the aged Roman-collared fellows responsible for Catholic education in Cincinnati. To assure that all instructors are bigoted, close-minded, intolerant and holier-than-thou, they have prepared a six-page contract for each teacher.

(Sorry, Jesus. You wouldn’t qualify to teach in Cincinnati.)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabookTHE LITERARY AWARD goes to Fr. James Martin, S.J. for his excellent book, Between Heaven and Mirth (Why joy, human and laughter are at the heart of the Spiritual Life).

BEST ARTICLE AWARD is for Frederick W Mark’s “Marian Misconceptions” in the May New Oxford Review.

TOP HONORS AWARD goes to Sister Maria-Nazareth, from Argentina, who hasaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa volunteered to serve in the hospice for Christian girls in Aleppo, right in the midst of the Syrian battle region.

THE GUTSY AWARD is for Israel for jailing a former primer minister for bribery. If we jailed all Congressmen for bribery, they would hold the next session of Congress in the corner of a Starbucks.

Thank you for the beautiful and informative article. The Koran    describes Mary as Virgin who gave birth to Jesus ,a prophet. Mary and Jesus are held in high esteem. What we cannot understand is their hatred and eagerness to destroy Christians from the Middle East and other Muslim countries, in spite of their regard for Jesus and Mary. May God help them remove hatred from their hearts.

A man walked into a Washington, D.C., confessional.

He tells the priest, “Blessed me, Father, because I have sinned. Last night I beat the crap out of a Congressman.”

The priest responds: “My son, I am here to forgive sins, not to discuss your community service.”
